MORE SPOILER-FREE REVIEWS @ https://www.msbreviews.com/ "I Came By boasts a haunting performance by Hugh Bonneville and a screenplay featuring an interesting exploration of opposing economic classes. The theme "rich vs. Poor" is developed through compelling interactions, but unfortunately, it's surrounded by an extremely predictable narrative that significantly reduces the levels of suspense and mystery. Time jumps only serve as a confusing technical element, and constant, abrupt cuts during tense moments become quite frustrating. The trailers are also incredibly misleading, with George McKay having surprisingly short screen time. Overall, it won't impress viewers who are more knowledgeable of the genre, but it's still a rather captivating viewing." Rating: C+
I very rarely rate movies below 40%, but this movie truly deserves it. While the actors are generally doing a fairly alright job, the writing and plot are unfortunately just absolutely irredeemable. It's full of plot holes, baffling behavior by the main characters and dialogue that is so badly written that it's almost comical. Not to mention the frequent time skips without any indication - it ends up being the viewer's job to figure out if multiple months just passed between scenes. I could go on listing negative things that irked me about this film, but I'm not sure if I'd stay within the character limit if I did. So I'm just going to mention the one nice detail that I thought was well done: The scene where the policewoman inspects the peephole in the door of the panic room was a really nice "gotcha" moment. Shame it didn't lead to anything plot-wise though and was followed up by yet another dumb and incomprehensible scene. I don't recommend this movie to anyone and I wish I hadn't wasted almost two hours of my life on it. It's not "so bad it's funny", it's just plain bad and irritating.
